Shin Splint
What is Shin Splint?
Shin Splint is sometime also known as Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome , is pain and tenderness along or just behind the inner edge of the tibia. Usually develope after vigorous phyiscal activity.
Symptoms of Shin Splint
- Pain in the front of the outer leg below the knee
- Usually pain when just started to work out and reappear again when it ends
Causes of Shin Splint
- Sudden increase in intensity of work out
- Tight Achilles Tendon
- Weak Ankle Muscle
- Complete or partial dislocation
Treatment for Shin Splint
- Using R.I.C.E,
Rest: Stop all activity, to prevent the strain to worsen
Ice: Apply ice to reduce swelling
Compression: Wrap the strained area to reduce swelling
Elevation: Keep the it as close to the level of the heart as to keep blood from pooling in the injured area
