What is Runner’s Knee?

Runner’s Knee is sometime also known as Iliotibal Band Injury, is a very common knee injuries which affects runners, jumpers or other kind of activity that put heavy stress on their knee.


Symptoms of Runner’s Knee

  • Pain when walking up and down the stairs, kneeling, squating and sitting for too long

 


Causes of Runner’s Knee

  • Excessive training or overusage
  • Tightness, imbalance, or weakness of thigh muscles
  • Flat Feet
  • Complete or partial dislocation

 


Treatment for Runner’s Knee

  • Using R.I.C.E,

Rest: Stop all activity, to prevent the strain to worsen
Ice: Apply ice to reduce swelling
Compression: Wrap the strained area to reduce swelling
Elevation: Keep the it as close to the level of the heart as to keep blood from pooling in the injured area
