What is Meniscus Tears?

Meniscus Tears is sometime also known as Torn Cartilage, it is a very common knee injuries which particularly affects more on those that play contact sports. The cartilage act as a “shock-absorbers” between your thighbone and shinbone. Also known as meniscus, they are tough and rubbery to help cushion the joints and keep it stable.


Symptoms of Meniscus Tears

  • Pain
  • Stiffness and Swelling
  • Sensation of your knee “giving way”
  • Unable to have the full range motion of the knee Causes of Meniscal Tears
  • Squat and twist the knee too vigorously
  • Degenerative Meniscal Tears
  • Aging Factors

Treatment for Meniscus Tears

  • Using R.I.C.E,

Rest: Stop all activity, to prevent the strain to worsen
Ice: Apply ice to reduce swelling
Compression: Wrap the strained area to reduce swelling
Elevation: Keep the it as close to the level of the heart as to keep blood from pooling in the injured area
