What is Chondromalacia Patellae?
Chondromalacia Patellae a is the softening of the cartilage of the under the kneecap. It is the most common cause of chronic knee pain and it results from degeneration of cartilage due to poor alignment of the kneecap as it slides over the lower end of the thigh bone.
Symptoms of Chondromalacia Patellae
- Discomfort of the inner knee area
- Sensation of “tightness” and “fullness” in the knee
- Loss of thigh muscle strength
- Mild swelling of the knee
Causes of Chondromalacia Patellae
- Kneecap is in an adnormal position
- Flat feet
- Too much stress to the knee
- Tightness and weakness of the muscle on the front and back of the thigh
Treatment for Chondromalacia Patellae
- Physical Therapy
- Anti-Inflammatory Medication
- A surgery is required, if through arthroscopy, the cartilage is damaged
