Pain in the upper back normally is the result of poor posture, muscle overuse, or injury. Most people describe upper back pain as a burning, tingling or pulling sensation in one place, which may be the location of injury or strain.
Some of the most common symptoms of middle back pain include muscle aches, dull pain, a burning sensation, sharp or stabbing pain and muscle tightness or stiffness.
Most low back pain is the result of an injury, sudden movements or poor body mechanics while lifting heavy objects. It can also be the result of certain diseases, such as cancer of the spinal cord, herniated disc, sciatica, arthritis, kidney infections, or infections of the spine.
Symptoms of a slipped disc include, pain and numbness that extends to your arms or legs, pain that worsens at night, pain that worsens after standing or sitting, pain when walking short distances, muscle weakness and tingling, aching, or burning sensations in the affected area.
Tailbone pain can feel dull and achy but typically becomes sharp. Tailbone pain can be caused by trauma to the coccyx during a fall, prolonged sitting on a hard or narrow surface, degenerative joint changes, or vaginal childbirth.
Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body. This causes inflammation, pain and often some numbness in the affected leg.
